Dr Deo Debattista was born on 24th July 1963. He spent his childhood and youth in Valletta, together with his parents, Carmen and John, and his younger brother Charles. He obtained his education at St Albert the Great College in Valletta, moving on to ĠF Abela New Lyceum and, later, to the University of Malta from where he graduated as a Doctor in Medicine and Surgery in 1988.
Dr Debattista has been active in politics since 2012. He successfully contested his first General Election in 2013 and has to-date been elected from the 1st District. During the period 2017-2022, he was entrusted with the role of Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Valletta 2018, Consumer Protection, Public Cleansing, Malta Medicines Authority, Malta Laboratories Network, National Accreditation Board, Data Protection and Public Cleansing.
A family doctor by profession, Dr Debattista is also an Assessor of the European Medicines Agency, from which he is currently on sabbatical following his appointment as Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing in June 2026.
Dr Debattista is married to Monica and is a father of two children, André and Emma.
