Medical Imaging

The Medical Imaging Department was launched as a completely digital department in 2007. All systems were up and running on go-live of Mater Dei Hospital Casualty on the 12th of November 2007.

The Radiology Information System is intended to manage, operate and record all milestones in the management of patient investigations, and also to interface with other solutions for digital ordering, digital transfer of data to the imaging machines, safety, standardisation, and optimisation of service with respect to efficiency, effectiveness, consistency and security.

The Picture Archiving and Communication System manages the images that are used for diagnosis of the patient in a resolution and a standard that is compatible with the requirement of the patient care pathway and requirements of the referring and reporting clinicians and the best interest of the patient.

Our systems are completely compatible with HL7 and DICOM standards to be able to share and manage data in full compatibility with international requirements. These solutions are being displayed in the multiscreen reporting workstation on the health stand.
The future of imaging will encompass all disciplines in a single Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) that is being demonstrated on the wall mounted monitor. This display describes the future of imaging both in the VNA, the AI Edison Orchestrator which is a revolutionary solution to assist radiologists prioritise and report on images using Computer Aided Diagnostic tools and also a show off Medical Imaging Services and Digital Health services that were advertised in the eHealth Week of 2017, in Malta.
